Vision-Box’s biometric ABC (Automated Border Control) solution has been deployed at another major airport, the company has announced. It’s now being used to process Brazilian citizens at the RIOgaleão – Tom Jobim International Airport.
It’s a major deployment. RIOgaleão processed 17 million travelers last year, and Vision-Box says its solution is being deployed at Terminal 2, where most of the international airlines are based. And with this summer’s Rio de Janeiro Olympics coming up, that could be a busier area than ever.
The implementation of Vision-Box’s solution is aimed at improving passenger traffic flows through self-service eGates, where facial recognition technology is used to efficiently match travelers’ faces to the image data on their passports. Of course, like Vision-Box’s other airport deployments, such as the recent implementation of its technology at the Copenhagen Airport, security is also a major concern, with the platform connected to federal police databases to scan for potential criminal or terrorist threats.
More broadly, airport officials are framing the deployment as simply a part of the modernization process. Commenting in a statement, RIOgaleão IT Manager explained, “RIOgaleão is becoming an international reference concerning operations, and access optimization is one of the many actions we have been pursuing in order to enhance passenger experience.”
