Rio Arriba County Deploys PortalGuard and BIO-key Fingerprint Readers

Another US county has turned to BIO-key to overhaul its identity and access management procedures. New Mexico’s Rio Arriba County will be deploying the PortalGuard IAM solution, as well as fingerprint readers for employees working in the office.

The arrangement is the result of a partnership between BIO-key and iT1. PortalGuard, meanwhile, is designed to help organizations streamline their access management procedures, with Single Sign-on capabilities that provide consolidated access to multiple applications. The platform can secure enterprise assets on-site and for people logging in remotely, with biometric authentication to help counties like Rio Arriba comply with cybersecurity insurance regulations.

In that regard, Rio Arriba will be installing BIO-key’s FIPS 201 PIV-Pro fingerprint scanners to enable fingerprint authentication for those using office workstations. Remote workers, on the other hand, will be asked to use BIO-key’s PalmPositive palm authentication option, which is offered through the company’s WEB-Key MobileAuth platform. In both cases, the biometric scan will allow the county to verify the identity of the person using the device, thereby providing a higher level of security than device verification alone.

South Dakota’s Lawrence County, New York’s Herkimer County, and Missouri’s Audrain County are some of the other counties that have adopted PortalGuard in 2022. BIO-key’s recent success with county organizations can be attributed to its decision to bring the solution to the National Association of Counties Conference last July.
