Global fintech company Revolut has officially launched its services in Ukraine, marking a significant expansion that brings digital banking services to the country’s residents through integration with Ukraine’s digital identity platform Diia.
The launch enables Ukrainian residents to open European Revolut accounts directly through the Diia app, using the country’s existing digital infrastructure for secure customer onboarding and identity verification.
The launch package includes multi-currency accounts supporting over 30 currencies, free peer-to-peer transfers between Revolut users, competitive foreign exchange rates, and both virtual and physical debit cards.
As part of the launch, Revolut has introduced a special edition Clear Sky VISA debit card, designed by its Ukrainian team. The transparent blue card, available free to Ukrainian customers, symbolizes hope for peace. UK and EEA customers can obtain the card by making a minimum donation of €/£5.
Revolut has announced several charitable initiatives in conjunction with the launch. The company will match customer donations up to £200,000 through a new international donation campaign featuring the Clear Sky card. They have partnered with UK for UNHCR to support displaced Ukrainians, extending their previous fundraising efforts that generated over £10 million for the Red Cross Ukraine appeal.
The expansion reflects Ukraine’s growing importance in the financial technology sector. Since 2022, Revolut has processed over 1 billion euros in transfers to Ukraine, primarily from Germany, the UK, Ireland, Poland, and the Netherlands.
The launch supports Ukraine’s broader digital transformation efforts, demonstrated by the success of the Diia.City initiative, which has attracted over 600 companies including major technology firms like Samsung, Visa, and Nokia.
Revolut’s integration with Diia demonstrates the merging of digital identity and payment technologies, following similar developments in other markets where digital identity systems are being linked to financial services.
