Regula has announced the launch of its ForensicScope Regula 4125, a portable ID verification device. The launch follows Regula’s recent expansion of its identity verification platform and partnerships with major testing providers.
The smartphone-sized device combines portability with professional forensic capabilities, designed for use at border checkpoints, airports, and transportation hubs. Built with high-quality ABS plastic and an aluminum frame, the device operates autonomously without requiring external monitors, computers, or internet connectivity — a crucial feature for deployment in remote locations and areas with limited infrastructure.
The ForensicScope Regula 4125 features three specialized cameras: a main camera with 40x zoom, an infrared camera for full-page visualization, and a dedicated camera with 250x zoom for detecting face morphing. The device incorporates 15 light sources to examine phosphorescent inks, security features, and printing techniques. Its built-in lithium-polymer battery supports up to 4 hours of continuous operation.
A notable feature is the device’s morphing detection capability, leveraging a 250x zoom camera positioned at a 45-degree angle to identify subtle gloss variations in potentially altered ID photos. The technology builds upon research from the Fraunhofer Institute’s work on face-morphing detection, which has highlighted the growing sophistication of identity fraud techniques.
“There are no rivaled analogs for our ForensicScope Regula 4125 on the market today,” said Alex Lewanowicz, Director of Hardware Engineering at Regula. “It’s a fundamentally new device, which effectively combines the usability of portable tools and the wide functionality of advanced forensic equipment.”
Regula, with over three decades of experience in forensic research, maintains what it describes as the world’s most comprehensive library of document templates. The company serves more than 1,000 organizations and 80 border control authorities globally, and has received recognition as a Representative Vendor in the Gartner Market Guide for Identity Verification. Its expertise has been particularly valuable in the aviation sector, where CEO Arif Mamedov has emphasized the importance of document recognition technology in improving travel security.
