Regula Announces New R&D Lab in Ukraine

Belarus-based Regula has opened a new office in Ukraine in partnership with a major academic institution.

The new office will act as a kind of subsidiary R&D lab, operating as an LLC. Dubbed “Regula Forensics UA”, the lab is located within the National Technical University of Ukraine’s Radiotechnical Department, whose LAD laboratory has been working with Regula for more than 20 years.

Specializing in forensic research in magneto-optics, the lab will maintain a focus on technologies for the verification of the authenticity of banknotes, securities, and other documents with embedded magnetic security features, as well as firearm and ammunition identification numbers. As such, its work could lead to solutions with applications in the law enforcement sector, among others.

Regula Forensics UA will be headed by Pavlo Lievyi, who highlighted a flagship solution developed by the lab in Regula’s announcement. The MOHyster Regula 7708 is a magneto-optical hysteresigraph, an instrument used to measure certain aspects of magnetic fields. Lievyi called it “a one of a kind device” that was specifically designed for use in applied research, “particularly for the development of new and improvement of currently existing document security features with magnetic properties.”

Regula says that the solutions developed by its new office in Ukraine could be exported to over 40 countries in which the company operates, including states in Europe, North America, the Middle East, and Asia. With Ukraine added to its roster, Regula itself now has offices in Belarus, Brazil, Germany, Latvia, Russia, the UK, and the US.
