Regula and Bernini Add Biometric Identity Checks to AI Customer Conversations

Regula and Bernini.ai have partnered to embed document and biometric identity checks into AI-powered customer conversations, allowing businesses to verify a customer when an interaction moves into onboarding, account servicing or a higher-risk transaction.

The integration connects Regula’s Document Reader SDK and Face SDK with Bernini’s DAFNE platform. An AI agent can request verification when the business needs to establish or reconfirm who the customer is. DAFNE then uses the result alongside the organization’s rules to determine how the conversation and associated workflow should continue.

Regula’s document software examines available data fields and supported security features, cross-checking information for inconsistencies that could indicate fraud. Verification data can also be processed and rechecked on a server. Face SDK links the document to its holder through face matching and uses liveness checks to assess whether a person is present.

The identity check can occur at more than one stage in the customer relationship. A business could verify someone during account opening and request another check when that person later asks for access to an existing account or initiates an action requiring stronger assurance.

DAFNE coordinates specialized AI agents through a shared control layer. Bernini says that layer applies authentication and authorization policies, business rules, security controls, data-protection requirements and audit logging. Organizations can define which resources an agent may access, which actions it can perform and how work is handed between agents.

The companies are targeting banking, insurance, telecommunications and retail, with support for customer interactions across web and mobile channels. Bernini is headquartered in Santiago, Chile, and operates across Latin America. Regula Executive Vice President Henry Patishman said the integration places document and biometric verification at relevant points throughout an AI-assisted customer relationship.

Regula’s Document Reader SDK is also used in Uber’s expanded driver-verification network in Poland, where portable readers extend checks beyond fixed centres. That deployment concerns physical document inspection, while the Bernini integration brings verification into conversational service workflows.

Agent identity and authorization are also the focus of Entrust’s Agentic AI Trust Accelerator. In the Regula-Bernini workflow, the document and face checks establish the human customer’s identity, and DAFNE governs the actions its agents can take under the business’s policies.
