RealNetworks‘ board of directors has now grown from six to eight members.
One of the newly appointed board members is a former RealNetworks employee. Tim Wan joined the company back in 2002 as its Director of Business Planning and Marketing, and didn’t depart until 2012, after serving for three years as its Chief Financial Officer. From there, he went on to become a board member of Napster – which RealNetworks now owns – from 2012 to 2015; and he then held CFO positions with Apigee and Asana.
In a statement announcing his appointment to the RealNetworks board, the company noted that during his term with Apigee, Wan helped “to lead the company through its IPO and sale to Google” in November of 2016.
“It’s an honor to rejoin RealNetworks,” Wan commented. “I am incredibly excited to work with the management team and the Board on accelerating the company’s growth initiatives in SAFR and Games and revitalizing its other businesses.”
The other new board member, meanwhile, is Erik Prusch, who has held several CEO positions over the years: at Borland Software Corporation, ClearWire, and Outerwall. He also spent time as CEO of both NetMotion Wireless and Lumension – two mobile and enterprise security companies.
Commenting on his own appointment to the RealNetworks board, Prusch said he has been “impressed with Real’s compelling long-term growth prospects and its promising early results with its SAFR facial and object recognition platform.”
The board appointments come after RealNetworks’ hire of Jay Burrell as its new Chief Revenue Officer this past spring, an injection of executive talent aimed at boosting revenues from sales of its SAFR biometric platform.
