Rank One Brings Large-scale Face Search Tech to the Laptop

Rank One Computing has officially announced a new biometric investigative tool based on its facial recognition technology.

Dubbed “Rank One Explore”, the system is designed to bring a powerful database-scanning tool to the end user’s laptop, allowing them to search through terabytes of media to find a biometric match via facial recognition. Rank One says that its system lets users search through tens of millions of facial templates, and enables them to configure watch list alerts based on certain face matches.

“ROC Explore was born out of a desire to offer users an intuitive interface and workflow that eases the bottleneck of media processing and empowers purposeful investigation,” the company said in its announcement. “It has been developed over the course of several years and has already been operationally deployed in support of national security missions.”

The solution’s announcement comes after Rank One detailed its strong showing in a recent round of the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s Face Recognition Vendor Test. Rank One’s algorithm placed in the top quintile in seven of eight assessment categories.

In celebrating its FRVT results, Rank One noted that some of its high-profile competitors in the law enforcement and government sector, including Amazon and Clearview AI, haven’t submitted their facial recognition algorithms for evaluation in the FRVT Ongoing program for years. In other words, unlike those of its competitors, Rank One’s algorithm has actually been evaluated by a third party, with public – and impressive – results.

Rank One Explore is available for Windows, macOC, and Linux, and the company says it can also be integrated into Android and iOS mobile apps to facilitate in-the-field investigations.
