Swedish biometrics developer Precise Biometrics has announced a partnership with Synaptics that will see its fingerprint algorithm incorporated into that company’s line of touch fingerprint sensors and solutions.
Speaking on the development in a press release, Precise Biometrics CEO Hakan Persson asserted that the partnership “strengthens our position as an independent vendor of fingerprint algorithms for mobile and other embedded devices,” adding that the move “is an important step to further commercialize our fingerprint technology.”
While Precise Biometrics offers its own fingerprint-scanning products, the agreement is a good sign for its potential to license advanced fingerprint algorithms as companies seek higher levels of security for their own biometric solutions.
Mobile commerce is on the uptake with new payment platforms like Apple Pay offering biometric security as a means to reassure anxious new users and to protect itself against liability. Unfortunately, such platforms are still sometimes susceptible to spoofing, and could benefit from more advanced fingerprint algorithms. As Major financial services providers like MasterCard start to move into the digital payment field with their own biometric security apparatuses, it could provide companies specializing in precise algorithms with further opportunities for licensing.
