Precise Biometrics has entered into a new licensing agreement with a fingerprint sensor maker, the company has announced. The deal will see Taiwan-based Gingy Technology Co. integrate Precise Biometrics’ Precise BioMatch Mobile technology into its hardware.
While Gingytech isn’t yet a particularly well-known brand, in a statement announcing the deal Precise Biometrics CEO Håkan Persson called it “an innovative company with an interesting hybrid fingerprint sensor technology.” Gingytech CEO Jason Wu, meanwhile, emphasized the products that would result from the partnership, asserting that the “combination of our hybrid fingerprint sensor technology and Precise Biometrics’ industry leading fingerprint recognition software enables high performance fingerprint authentication for smartphones.”
The new partnership may represent a stronger focus on Precise Biometrics’ part to broaden its range of licensing partnerships. The company has enjoyed considerable success over the past year via integrations of its fingerprint biometric algorithm technology into Fingerprint Cards’ sensors, with the latter having firmly established itself as a leading hardware supplier to smartphone OEMs; but Precise Biometrics has lately sealed a number of deals with other hardware partners in what appears to be a strategy of partner diversification. The smartphone sensor market is still growing, after all, so such a strategy could prove fruitful in the year to come.
