Precise Biometrics is preparing for another major shakeup in the executive suite. Current CEO Stefan K. Persson has given his six-month notice to the company, and will officially be stepping down as CEO in March of 2022.
Persson did not offer a concrete reason for the departure, indicating only that he is looking to pursue other interests beyond Precise. He will continue to lead Precise in the interim, while the company itself is kicking off a recruitment process to find his replacement.
“I want to thank Stefan for his efforts as he has implemented important changes that has positioned Precise well for the future,” said Precise Chairman of the Board Torgny Hellström.
“We are now starting the recruitment of a new CEO and see opportunities in finding a suitable leader for the next phase in the company’s development.”
Hellström specifically credited Persson for building up Precise’s access control and smart card portfolios, indicating that both markets offer significant growth potential in the next few years. The company’s YOUNiQ access control solution has already helped Precise weather the downturn in the mobile market caused by COVID-19, while KONA I has received a Mastercard Letter of Approval for a biometric smart card featuring Precise’s fingerprint tech.
Precise has historically been known for providing fingerprint recognition technology for mobile devices. YOUNiQ, on the other hand, is a face-based access control offering that has been growing in popularity in the past few months. Precise now has a distribution agreement with Elektroskandia, and has entered the German market after providing biometric access for an Algeco regional office in the country.
The news of Persson’s departure comes only a few short months after Precise announced that Annika Freij would be taking over as the company’s new Chief Financial Officer.
