PortalGuard Nets BIO-key a Gold Govie Award

In addition to winning BIO-key plenty of new business, the company’s PortalGuard Single Sign-On solution has now also won the company a Govies Government Security Award.

The Govies are bestowed by Security Today magazine, in recognition of exceptional government security solutions. BIO-key won a gold Govie in the category of User Authentication/Identification/Credentialing and Management, in recognition of PortalGuard, which supports SSO and multi-factor authentication capabilities, including fingerprint-based biometric authentication.

BIO-key added PortalGuard to its solutions portfolio in June of 2020, through its acquisition of PistolStar. In the autumn of that same year, the company announced the official launch of its cloud-based PortalGuard Identity-as-a-Service solution, and it went on to implement additional passwordless authentication features to the platform in 20221.

Its new offering did brisk business, with BIO-key announcing numerous PortalGuard contracts with government agencies as well as academic institutions. In a recent corporate update, BIO-key reported that its revenues in the 2021 fiscal year were up 80 percent compared to fiscal 2020, attributing the increase primarily to PortalGuard.

In a statement announcing the 2022 Govies award win, BIO-key emphasized that PortalGuard’s support for a range of authentication options offers strong appeal in the government sector, since IT administrators can adapt it to the needs of various departments and users while ensuring a high level of security.
