Cloud-based payments company PopID and the Panasonic Corporation of North America — a subsidiary of tech giant Panasonic — have announced a partnership that will see them work together to bring PopID’s eponymous platform and PopPay, a mobile facial recognition-based ordering and payment platform, to more restaurants and retail locations across the U.S.
The partnership will see Panasonic integrate PopID and PopPay into its ClearConnect Kiosk application — which is inclusive of hardware, software, UI/UX Design, deployment, and support services — and drive-thru systems and payment terminals, in addition to giving it preferential rights in the kiosk market.
With the recent lockdown and physical distancing measures put into place as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak, many restaurant dining rooms around the world remain closed and businesses are becoming increasingly reliant on takeout and drive-thru orders.
Recently, PopPay was launched as a ‘face pay wallet’ that can be used for contact-free payments at drive thrus. PopID is emphasizing its safety and wellness benefits as a contactless payments solution that reduces the risks associated with coming into contact with commonly shared surfaces such as terminals or counters.
“Panasonic has played an active part in the restaurant ecosystem and is excited to work with PopID to deliver a contactless solution that both enhance the customer experience while keeping the customer safe,” said Faisal Pandit, President of Panasonic System Solutions Company of North America. “The integration of PopID’s payment platforms within the solutions we deploy enables consumers to have a better experience and restaurants to operate more efficiently.”
In addition to contactless payments, PopID also allows users to sign into merchant loyalty rewards programs using facial recognition, as well as see their past orders and reorder them quickly, which can increase sales by increasing throughput.
“Registering once for a PopID account enables guests to use their face as their identity for various purposes, ranging from temperature testing at the workplace to payment in restaurants and retail stores,” noted John Miller, CEO of PopID and Chairman of Cali Group. “This partnership with Panasonic will rapidly expand the number of businesses that offer the PopPay and PopID technology in the U.S.”
To register for PopPay, users can visit popid.com/register, after which they can use the service wherever it is accepted, including at kiosks, payment terminals or drive-thrus.
