PopID is looking to reach new customers through a strategic partnership with Open Options. The arrangement will make the former’s PopEntry facial recognition system available to current and future Open Options clients.
Open Options is an access control specialist that offers key card and mobile entry solutions. The new partnership will add facial recognition to that portfolio, giving organizations a biometric (and contactless) way to secure their premises.
To use PopEntry, employees first need to register their face through the PopID website. After that, they simply need to stand in front of a screening device to complete a scan. The door will open and they will be granted access if they have the clearance to enter that particular location.
PopEntry can identify people even if they are wearing a mask. It also offers temperature detection, which means that it can be configured to bar access to anyone running a fever. That feature, coupled with contactless entry, will support better health outcomes during COVID-19.
“We have been following a number of the new screening technologies coming to market since the spring and believe that PopID’s system is not only among the most effective, but it can be easily integrated into our existing user base with a single administrative panel,” said Open Options president Charles O’Leary.
According to PopID, facial recognition is preferable to key cards because faces cannot be lost or stolen, nor do they have any of the administrative costs associated with physical cards. In that regard, users do not need to re-register their faces to gain access to other facilities that have deployed the PopEntry system, or to pay for goods and services with PopID’s PopPay platform.
PopID has already installed PopEntry at a senior living center in Denver, and at restaurants and retail establishments across California. The technology has also been deployed at several academic institutions.
