Ping Identity has unveiled a new digital security solution that will enable passwordless authentication across a number of different channels. PingZero is based on the technology in the Ping Intelligent Identity Platform, and is built to meet the latest FIDO2 and WebAuthn standards for passwordless security.
In that regard, PingZero supports multiple biometric modalities, and will also track the user’s unique device and browser settings. Once that person is logged in, the platform will operate in the background to provide ongoing passive authentication, and will only step in with another verification request if the risk level exceeds a certain threshold. A change in location or a new IP address are events that could prompt such a request.
PingZero can be integrated into public-facing (and branded) mobile apps, or implemented as part of an internal Software-as-a-Service setup. The feature is available through Ping’s own Customer360 and Workforce360 products, and can be paired with a legacy security solution to update an organization’s security posture.
“PingZero was designed with a frictionless user journey in mind,” said Ping Identity CEO Andre Durand. “PingZero enables businesses to work smarter by eliminating the time wasted managing and resetting passwords and instead provides users with more secure access to what they need to get work done efficiently.”
The solution uses QR codes to register new customers during account creation. Ping Identity is hoping that it will help eliminate the need for usernames and passwords and reduce the administrative burden on IT departments that need to handle password reset requests, noting that passwords are one of the most common causes of data breaches.
PingZero arrives shortly after Ping Identity completed its acquisition of ShoCard. The solution extends the company’s support for FIDO’s passwordless authentication protocols, which currently cover the PingID and Ping Intelligent Identity solutions.
