The retail technology provider pdActive has released a new facial recognition solution that can identify people wearing masks. The platform has been dubbed ActiveMatch, and it can be deployed with an existing camera system to monitor a retail outlet or another public space with a high volume of foot traffic.
The pdActive engineers who worked on ActiveMatch have previously developed facial recognition technology for the Department of Defense. pdActive also offers behavioral analytics to provide retailers with more information about their clientele.
“We are providing a new solution to address the unanticipated challenges related to the coronavirus that range from contact tracing, optical temperature detection and the need to know who a person is while wearing a mask,” said pdActive Founder and CEO Don Knasel. “Organizations need highly accurate facial recognition to know who is on site, what they are doing and their body temperature before they enter a location.”
Of course, pdActive is not the only company highlighting its mask detection capabilities during the COVID-19 pandemic. CyberLink recently updated its own facial recognition solution to improve its accuracy for people wearing masks, while Platinum CCTV has released a security camera that can tell whether or not someone is wearing one. That camera also piggybacks on another trend with temperature screening tech.
