MobileIron has released a new zero sign-on solution that allows employees to access cloud services at work with their iPhone instead of a password. The enterprise-level solution leverages MobileIron’s unified endpoint management platform, and treats the mobile device as a form of secure identity when logging into cloud applications like Office 365.
The service is an expansion of MobileIron’s existing Access platform, which allows zero sign-on from approved and managed devices. The new solution extends that functionality to any iOS device, with plans to add support for Android devices in the near future.
The move is part of the ongoing effort to eliminate the need for passwords, which have been repeatedly identified as one of the most vulnerable elements of modern digital infrastructure.
“Passwords continue to be one of the top causes of enterprise data breaches,” said MobileIron CEO Simon Biddiscombe. “Making the mobile device your digital ID provides the best user experience and significantly reduces the risk of data breaches.”
Earlier this year, Gartner predicted that corporate entities would turn to app-based mobile solutions, largely due to their added security and convenience. MobileIron, for its part, has also formed a partnership with IDEMIA to take advantage of the latter’s eSIM technology.
