“The company has just closed a $19.5 million series-B funding round led by NEC Corporation and Tano Capital, and featuring contributions from Min Aik Technology Co., Ltd.”
Tascent is enjoying a rising profile on the back of a major collaborative partnership and successful funding round.
The company’s latest partner is First Advantage, a background check and drug screening solutions provider based in Georgia, which teamed up with Tascent to develop its ‘Mobile Fingerprint Capture’ solution. The system is based on the Tascent Enterprise Suite and Tascent MX, a biometric smartphone case system that allows a FAP 45 Sherlock fingerprint sensor to interface with a mobile device.
In announcing the new solution, First Advantage emphasized its speed compared to conventional background checks processes. “Historically, job candidates were required to visit a physical location where fingerprinting services were conducted or wait until a visit by an onsite ‘mobile’ unit could be scheduled,” the company explained in a statement. Now, with its Mobile Fingerprint Capture solution allowing employers to ensure “prompt background screening using the latest technologies, employers are protecting their investments in job advertising and employment branding as well as advancing the candidate experience.”
The solution offers another example of the growing prominence of biometrics technology in everyday life, and capitalizes on trends in consumer electronics and especially smartphones. It also offers a strong showcase for Tascent’s technology, which has been attracting considerable investor interest. The company has just closed a $19.5 million series-B funding round led by NEC Corporation and Tano Capital, and featuring contributions from Min Aik Technology Co., Ltd.
In a statement announcing the successful funding round, Tascent asserted that the capital “will be used to expand Tascent’s biometrics product and solution suite and extend its global footprint.” Commenting further, Tascent founder and co-CEO Joey Pritikin framed the investment within a larger trend, asserting that “[b]iometrics has become an important part of our daily lives, thanks to solutions that are both accurate and intuitive,” and adding later that “the participation of NEC and Min Aik in our B Round will help drive Tascent’s future growth.”
