An airport biometrics specialist continues to take shape in Pangiam, which has just announced its acquisition of computer vision and facial recognition firm Trueface.
Pangiam was created by AE Industrial Partners last October through the business combination of Linkware, LLC and PRE, LLC. It went on to make its first big business move in March of 2021, when it acquired veriScan, a biometric passenger processing system developed by the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority.
While the veriScan solution already brought facial recognition technology into Pangiam’s portfolio, the company is evidently looking to reinforce that foundation with the computer vision capabilities of Trueface’s technology, which encompass not just facial recognition but age verification and weapon detection.
Its facial recognition technology is nothing to sniff at, either. Trueface recently attained a top-three ranking among Western vendors in the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s 1:N Face Recognition Vendor Test. That could help Pangiam to further refine its traveler processing offerings and attract business. What’s more, Trueface itself has “entrenched positions” with clients in 13 countries, according to a statement announcing the acquisition.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed. But Pangiam did indicate that the founders of Trueface, Shaun Moore and Nezare Chafni, “will serve in key leadership positions within Pangiam” as they continue to lead Trueface.
“Shaun and Nezare are pioneering thought leaders whose advances in computer vision have the potential to drive innovation in identity management, data labeling and biometrics,” said Pangiam CEO Kevin McAleenan.
As for AE Industrial, Partner Kirk Konert observed that the acquisition “comes at a perfect time, as travel is poised to continue to rebound and passengers want reassurances that the highest health and safety protocols are being followed.”
