Pangiam Acquires Washington Airport Authority’s Biometric Screening Tech

Secure travel services provider Pangiam has announced that it is acquiring veriScan, a biometric passenger processing system developed by the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority.

Like other prominent biometric passenger screening systems for airports, the veriScan system is based on facial recognition. The biometric technology is used to match travelers against their passports, automating the identity verification process. And it meets U.S. Customs and Border Protection requirements for the national Biometric Exit border control program.

Pangiam, meanwhile, is a provider of identity management and analytics software focused on the federal government and commercial sectors. In a statement announcing the acquisition, Pangiam CEO Kevin McAleenan explained that his team expects growing demand for passenger screening technology as travel resumes in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, calling veriScan’s “state-of-the-art”.

“veriScan’s cost effective, easy to implement cloud application makes it accessible to all airports and airlines, and we expect to see increased adoption of this technology this year as travel resumes globally,” he said. “Pangiam looks forward to working with our clients to help speed adoption of solutions that deliver premier travel experiences for all.”

Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority SVP and CIO Goutam Kundu, meanwhile, expressed pride in his team’s veriScan system. “We look forward to seeing veriScan continue to shape the future of seamless, secure travel under the direction of Pangiam,” he said.

The acquisition is Pangiam’s first since the company was formed through the merger of Linkware, LLC and PRE, LLC in October of last year by the private equity firm AEI. Financial terms of the acquisition have not been disclosed.
