Tascent and Panasonic Avionics plan to work together to develop passenger service solutions for the air travel industry.
Announcing their “intent to enter into a strategic partnership”, the companies said their collaborative efforts will seek to combine Panasonic Avionics’ in-flight entertainment solutions with Tascent’s biometric identification technologies. The end results will include automated personalization of services for passengers, and even in-flight biometric payments, among other benefits.
Commenting on the collaboration in a statement, Panasonic Avionics VP of Corporate Strategic Initiatives Chris Lundquist said it reflects his company’s “vision for the connected aircraft and its benefits for the commercial aviation community”, while Tascent co-CEO Alastair Partington gestured to the better passenger experience offered by “an aviation industry that adopts biometrics technologies in an intelligent, personal and thoughtful way.”
Tascent has long promoted the idea that biometric technology offers powerful applications in the aviation industry, and continued to highlight them in announcing its new InSight One face and iris scanning device at the start of this year. Now, with its Panasonic Avionics collaboration, it could start to realize much of the potential in this area, and to attract further customers from the sector based on the results.
