PalmSecure Gets EPCS Certification from iBeta

Fujitsu’s flagship biometric solution has attained EPCS certification from an accredited testing lab, the company has announced. The certification offers further validation to the PalmSecure palm vein scanning system’s utility in e-prescriptions.

The Electronic Prescription for Controlled Substances regulation is essentially concerned with enabling and regulating the ability of medical practitioners to issue electronic prescriptions for controlled substances. Such e-prescriptions present an obvious need for reliable digital validation, and it’s to that end that biometric technology offers uniquely effective solutions, allowing for the validation of doctor and patient identities.

In a statement announcing the iBeta certification, Fujitsu Frontech North America head Michi Sugawara said it “will enable Fujitsu to further execute the company strategy of expanding our healthcare portfolio into national chain and independent pharmacies,” adding that this will represent an expansion beyond the current use of PalmSecure for patient identification within hospital environments.

The certification also helps to raise the profile of iBeta, which has lately enjoyed heightened visibility in the biometrics sector thanks to its integration of anti-spoofing evaluations to its quality assurance program.
