Pakistan’s National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has introduced an enhanced version of its B-Form registration certificate for children above 10 years old, incorporating new biometric security features including fingerprints and photographs. The development follows NADRA’s broader initiatives in digital identity modernization across Pakistan.
The updated document marks a significant advancement from previous versions, which did not include biometric data. To obtain the new B-Form, applicants must provide both the child’s computerized birth certificate and the parent’s computerized national identity card. The requirement matches NADRA’s existing verification protocols established through its comprehensive digital identity infrastructure.
NADRA has integrated high-tech security features into the document to prevent tampering and ensure authenticity. The security elements build upon the organization’s expertise demonstrated in other recent initiatives, including its advanced biometric technologies showcased at IDEAS 2024. The implementation aims to streamline the registration process while providing enhanced identity protection for children.
“The new B-Form will contain fingerprints and a photo of the child, which was never included in the registration certificate before,” said Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi. “This will enhance the security and authenticity of the document, thereby protecting the identity of children.”
The enhanced B-Form system extends NADRA’s existing digital identity infrastructure, which has been developing since the authority’s establishment in 2000. The addition of biometric features meets international standards for identity documentation and reflects the growing importance of secure identification systems for minors. The upgrade is part of Pakistan’s broader digital transformation strategy, which includes recent implementations of biometric verification in vehicle registration and real estate transactions.
The new system complements NADRA’s upcoming facial recognition initiatives, including a specialized verification system for elderly citizens planned for 2025, demonstrating the authority’s commitment to comprehensive digital identity solutions across all age groups.
