OT-Morpho’s License2Go Leverages Biometric Verification

A new smartphone app is designed to digitize identification documents like driver licenses.

Called License2Go, the app is designed by OT-Morpho. It works in conjunction with another app designed for ID verification, allowing authorities to wirelessly check the credentials on a subject’s smartphone. The ID holder, meanwhile, can customize which information the app will share, as appropriate.

As for ensuring that the license holder is the one who should possess the virtual document, that’s done with biometrics. The License2Go system is designed to leverage the user’s smartphone camera for facial recognition, allowing for online verification applications.

The app’s emergence is the latest big step in a longstanding effort, with MorphoTrust – a division of Safran Identity & Security, which has since merged with Oberthur Technologies to form OT-Morpho – having started testing a mobile driver license concept in 2015. Now, OT-Morpho’s Morpho Australasia has started trialing License2Go with an Australian transport authority, and the company says it will implement further pilot project in the APAC region later this year.
