Onfido is offering a helping hand to organizations involved in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic. The company is offering its selfie-based identity solution to any such nonprofit or charity operating in the healthcare, home care or education spaces for free for a period of six months.
As detailed in a blog post by Onfido CEO Husayn Kassai, the company has already put this initiative into action. Florence, an organization that supplies registered nurses to care homes in the UK, is now taking advantage of Onfido’s offer; and Kassai says that his firm’s biometric solution is also now being used to verify individuals who have been tested for COVID-19.
Meanwhile, the pandemic also seems to have resulted in increased business in certain areas where Onfido is already active, with Kassai asserting that weekly volumes in the online healthcare and pharmacies space have gone up 345 percent, while weekly volumes in remittances and payment have grown by 37 percent.
The stats may reflect a broader trend, with many analysts anticipating a shift away from contact-based biometric authentication, and toward the kind of contactless authentication supported by Onfido’s selfie-based system, which uses facial recognition to match end users to their official identity documents.
Any non-profits or charity organizations that are interested in taking advantage of this technology gratis as they seek to mitigate the COVID-19 pandemic are invited to apply through Onfido’s website.
