Ondato has unveiled OnAge, a new reusable age verification system that leverages biometric authentication and digital identity verification to streamline access to age-restricted online services while maintaining user privacy. The system combines facial biometrics with document verification to create reusable digital age credentials that can be deployed across multiple platforms. The company, which provides Know Your Customer (KYC) and anti-money laundering solutions across Europe, developed the system in response to growing regulatory pressure for robust age verification in digital services.
The tool addresses increasing requirements for age verification across various platforms, including e-commerce, gaming, and social media services. These requirements have intensified following the implementation of regulations like the UK’s Online Safety Act and similar legislation in other jurisdictions requiring platforms to verify users’ ages.
OnAge’s key feature is its reusability through a centralized verification system. Once a user completes the initial age verification process through document verification and biometric checks, their verified status can be used across multiple participating services without requiring repeated document submissions. This approach aims to reduce friction in user experience while maintaining compliance with age verification requirements.
The system incorporates privacy-by-design principles, storing only the minimum necessary data to confirm age verification status. According to Ondato, the platform uses encrypted tokens rather than actual personal data for subsequent verifications, addressing growing concerns about data protection and privacy in digital identity systems.
