Onfido has joined forces with Okta to provide organizations with a more comprehensive suite of identity verification and identity management services. The joint solution will leverage Onfido’s document and facial recognition tech for customer onboarding, while Okta’s authentication and access management platform will help organizations manage those customers and deliver better service once accounts have been created.
To use the service, customers will first need to take a photo of their official government ID. Onfido will make sure that the ID is legitimate, and that it belongs to a real human being. If everything checks out, a new account will then be created on Okta’s identity platform. After that, the identity can be used to grant secure access to various applications.
Onfido’s facial biometrics will also be used to facilitate the account recovery process.
“Identity verification has become a core requirement in most consumer projects,” said Onfido Technology Partnerships VP Stephen Lee. “The combination of Okta and Onfido brings together a complete offering across consumer registration, verification and authentication to help secure the consumer on-boarding experience.”
The new partnership was announced during this week’s Oktane20Live event, where Okta also unveiled a new passwordless login solution called FastPass and a suite of new Platform Services. FastPass uses Okta Verify to link a device to a specific user, while Platform Services is a modular portfolio that can be configured to meet the needs of different organizations.
In the meantime, the arrangement should allow Onfido to extend the reach of its digital identity portfolio. The company has been working to carry its 2019 success into 2020, and recently teamed up with GetID to deliver automated onboarding services for the internet trading company Admiral Markets. The Swiss mobile operator Sunrise Communications is similarly using Onfido to onboard customers using its yallo swype subscription service.
