NxGen Brands has introduced a new cannabis distribution service that will use blockchain and biometric technology to facilitate secure payment and safe delivery. The proprietary platform was designed to make sure that the cannabis reaches the intended recipient, and that it does so in a discreet and private manner.
To that end, NxGen has created a payment platform to enable the online sale of cannabis, and a distribution infrastructure to fill those orders. The platform was built to be compliant with any state and local laws, and to increase transparency and accountability in cannabis distribution. For example, the service will offer real-time tracking for each shipment, while the orders themselves will come in tamper-proof containers sealed with a biometric mechanism. As a result, each container can only be opened by a registered recipient.
NxGen did not specify what modality would be used in the biometric mechanism. The platform will let customers choose their delivery location, which will in turn allow them to purchase cannabis without entering a dispensary or taking a shipment at home. NxGen will share more details about the platform later in the quarter, and eventually plans to expand the delivery service to other industries to help distribute products other than cannabis.
“Our delivery services platform will revolutionize the delivery services industry,” said NxGen CEO Angel Burgos. “We are, in part, a technology company and we anticipate that our use of biometric authentication will serve the cannabis industry in addition to other industries demanding highly-controlled goods delivery.”
NxGen is not the only company using biometric technology to support the distribution of restricted goods. Emerald Organic Products is hoping to place CBD products in biometric vending machines after securing a controlling stake in Bezel Jewelry, while PanPacific has developed a beverage dispenser with finger vein biometrics. Yoti has also been used to verify the identities of people purchasing alcohol online.
