Voice biometrics specialist Nuance Communications has won Gold in the Tomorrow’s Technology Today in Latin America category at the 2015 Global Excellence Awards in San Francisco. The distinction was awarded in recognition of the company’s work with Banco Santander Mexico.
The award was determined by over 50 judges from across the industry, who were apparently impressed by the voice biometrics solution Nuance provided to Banco Santander Mexico. The bank was looking for a way to replace the archaic PIN, password and question-and-answer security setup that it had been employing for customers calling into its automated phone system. Nuance’s Vocal Password solution was selected as the solution, offering customers a secure and convenient means of authentication by analyzing their voices when they call in with the phrase “At Banco Santander, my voice is my password.”
In a statement acknowledging the award, Nuance Executive Vice President Robert Weideman called it a “further validation that voice biometrics is leading he way for a more secure – and more convenient – method of authentication than PINs and passwords.”
Nuance is experienced with deployments in the financial services sector, but its technology has a broad range of applications: It recently won a contract to integrate its voice authentication system for a leading telecom in South Korea, for example; and its technology is also being integrated into smart car systems and smart home devices.
