Nuance has provided more details about its current sustainability strategy with the release of its 2020 ESG report. The report outlines the company’s Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) goals, and describes specific policies and programs that are expected to benefit Nuance employees and the community at large.
The finished report includes both internal and customer-facing initiatives. On the corporate side of the equation, the company has refurbished its ethics helpline to make sure that it will be accountable to the various codes of conduct that the company has in place. Nuance also strives to foster a diverse working environment, with inclusivity and benefits policies that are consistently rated as some of the best in the United States.
On the community front, Nuance is trying to cut back on its greenhouse gas emissions, and has already implemented a plan that will reduce the energy output at its three primary data centers by as much as 60 to 70 percent within the next year. The company matches employee charitable donations up to $1,000 and gives time off for volunteer commitments.
Finally, Nuance notes that its solutions are compliant with privacy and data protection regulations, including ISO 27001, SOC 2, and HIPAA. The company has also issued more than 50,000 free, temporary product licenses to help healthcare organizations that are scrambling to meet the demands of the COVID-19 crisis, and offered support to its existing Dragon Medical customers with the release of a free COVID-19 template, amongst other services.
“Our 2020 ESG Report is an overview of the foundation we are committed to building upon,” said Nuance CEO Mark Benjamin. “We believe it is our responsibility to ensure we are creating a supportive, inclusive, ethical, and equitable culture for our employees; investing in and caring for our communities; keeping our customers’ data secure; increasing our engagement with our shareholders; further reducing our carbon footprint; and continuing to support our customers both in normal times and amidst a global pandemic.”
This is the first time that Nuance has released an ESG report. The company recently upgraded its Dragon Medical One platform with the addition of an UpToDate research utility.
