Gemalto has won a contract to provide new identity documents for Norway.
The contract was awarded via the National Police Directorate of Norway, and will see the company supply authorities with Sealys eID cards and ePassports, as well as residence permit cards. The company’s Allynis Issuance and Coesys Case Management platform will be used to administrate the cards, beginning with biometric enrollment.
The project exemplifies Norway’s interest in sophisticated identity security, with multiple prominent research and banking groups having embarked on a mobile security project with Safran late last year. In a statement announcing the Gemalto contract, National Police Directorate of Norway Assistant Chief of Police John Kristian Thoresen said “[t]he introduction of eID cards and third generation ePassports represents another significant step forward for the national plan to enhance the safety and convenience of everyday life for Norwegians.”
The project is scheduled to start in 2018.
