Fingerprint sensor developer IDEX ASA is teaming up with authentication solutions provider Nok Nok Labs to integrate its newest sensor technology into the latter’s S3 Authentication Suite, the companies have announced.
Nok Nok Labs, a co-founder of the FIDO Alliance, is a leader in authentication security, particular with respect to its flagship S3 Authentication Suite, which was recently integrated into Google’s Android M fingerprint API, delivering FIDO-level security to the mobile operating system’s native biometric capabilities. Nok Nok Labs also recently released two new SDK’s for its S3 Authentication Suite that would drastically expand its compatibility with Android and iOS-based smartphones.
Now, with its integration of IDEX’s off-chip fingerprint sensor technology, the S3 Authentication Suite will be all the more secure, with the companies aiming to promote it to OEMs as a FIDO-certified security solution. IDEX has a proven track record in having its technology integrated into offerings from companies such as Trustonic and Flextronics.
In a statement, executives from both companies pointed to the growing acceptance of biometric authentication among consumers, suggesting that the time is right for their highly secure solution to be adopted by OEMs looking to capitalize on the security and user experience benefits that such technology has to offer. As Nok Nok Labs CEO Phillip Dunkelberger put it, “The combination of IDEX’s high performance fingerprint sensors with Nok Nok’s S3 Authentication Suite provides the users with the usability and security they need and offers organizations a simple framework to support strong authentication in their mobile and web applications.”
