NextGate has won a contract with NHS National Services Scotland to upgrade the national healthcare service’s patient identity management system.
The company will upgrade NHS Scotland’s Community Health Index to its MatchMetrix EMPI (Enterprise Master Patient Index) platform, which will take over the issuance of healthcare ID numbers for Scottish citizens. The platform will support legacy identifiers for patients, along with new ones, with MatchMetrix supporting biometric identification via facial recognition, a capability that was added to the platform last year.
Commenting in a statement, NHS NSS IT Director Andy Robertson said his organization is “pleased to be working with NextGate,” adding, “The modernization of our CHI system with their technology will help us deliver the highest standards of healthcare to the people of Scotland in a cost effective and efficient manner.”
The partnership comes just ahead of HIMSS 2017, where NextGate will show off its solutions to the many members of the healthcare IT community in attendance.
