Healthcare ID solutions provider NextGate has upgraded its MatchMetrix platform with facial recognition technology, the company has announced.
The aim is to reinforce the links between patients and their medical records. NextGate says that a given facial scan will produce a biometric score, which is then incorporated into MatchMetrix’s Enterprise Master Patient Index (EMPI), which is used to verify that a given set of patient records pertain to the scanned individual.
In a statement announcing the upgrade, NextGate CTO Dan Cidon proclaimed, “Biometrics extend the reach of patient identification, giving organizations more flexibility, accuracy, and confidence when locating, aggregating, and sharing patient records.” Indeed, the sentiment is shared by other solutions providers like Imprivata, whose PatientSecure system links records to patients via palm vein biometrics; such technology is a major component of the considerable growth predicted for the healthcare biometrics market.
For MatchMetrix’s part, NextGate emphasizes “its low cost, vendor neutrality, and ease of adoption for the user.” Those qualities should help to heighten its appeal in a growing market.
