NEXT Biometrics to Design Fingerprint Reader for Gov Project in Singapore

NEXT Biometrics is going to be designing a new fingerprint reader for government applications thanks to an order from its Singapore-based business partner, NCS.

The initial purchase order revolves around NEXT’s FAP 20 fingerprint sensor, with the company tasked to design and build a “mission critical authentication solution” for a government agency, the company explained in a statement. NCS has placed an order for 1,500 units to be deployed in December of this year, and NEXT Biometrics says that up to 10,000 units could be deployed over the next two years.

Commenting on the order, NEXT Biometrics CEO Peter Heuman said it “proves NEXT’s capabilities from both a design and manufacturing perspective” and “that our FAP 20 sensor delivers superior performance and quality.” Heuman added, “The collaboration with NCS demonstrates again the versatility of our FAP 20 sensor and its applicability in different business environments.”

The order points to ongoing market interest in NEXT Biometrics’ FAP 20 large-area fingerprint sensor, with Newland Payment Technology also having placed an order for the sensors in late September. Before that, NEXT received an order in late June that would see its FAP 20 sensors used in a citizen ID program in Russia.

News of the order comes after NEXT’s Heuman detailed the company’s decision to outsource its software development to GlobalLogic in a post on NEXT Biometrics’ blog at the end of summer.
