Fingerprint sensor technology company NEXT Biometrics has announced it has received another order to supply biometric fingerprint readers for the Indian government’s national Aadhaar biometric ID program.
The devices, which are to be certified both the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) and the country’s Standardisation Testing and Quality Certification (STQC) authorities, are an extension of an order received by NEXT in January, also for use in Aadhaar.
“We are pleased that our work over the past months have resulted in that our customer has decided to pick up an additional quantity from Next Biometrics” said Peter Heuman, NEXT Biometrics CEO.
The Aadhaar program, started in 2009, is a national registration program that consists of a unique 12 digit ID based on an individual’s biometric and demographic data. With over 1 billion Aadhaar ID holders, it’s the largest program of its kind in the world and the blueprint for similar projects in other countries.
This latest shipment of devices — which is also to be used in the Government of Andhra Pradesh’s ‘Navaratnalu’ program that aims to help farmers in the region through subsidies — also helps to expand NEXT’s presence in India, a country where it has already done a fair amount of business.
“The network of partners and distributors that we have built up is key for our continued success in government programs,” said Vishal Pandole, Head of Sales India at NEXT Biometrics. “We work closely with our partners through these projects to secure our sensor technologies are established in numerous real-life projects and use-cases in India,” he added.
