“This show of support from TYSSO is evidence of the value NEXT’s large-area fingerprint sensors are delivering to the market. We look forward to a long and successful relationship with the team at TYSSO.” – Ritu Favre, CEO, NEXT Biometrics
Tysso, a Taiwan-based POS solutions provider, has placed an order for fingerprint sensors from NEXT Biometrics, the companies have announced. The sensors, in the form of NEXT Biometrics’ NB 2023 modules, will be used in mobile POS terminals aimed at the US market.
In a statement announcing the order, NEXT Biometrics asserted, “Growth rates for biometric POS terminals are expected to outpace those for other POS devices in coming years.” That suggests the company’s leadership anticipate the emergence of ‘naked payments’ systems in the US allowing consumers to tie their fingerprint biometrics directly to their payment accounts, enabling them to make purchases without the need for a card, mobile device, or other hardware token. Additionally, fingerprint sensors on point-of-sale terminals can be leveraged for access control as well as time and attendance applications.
Commenting on the deal, NEXT Biometrics CEO Ritu Favre suggested that it marks the beginning of “a long and successful relationship” between the two firms.
This is the second POS-focused order announced by NEXT Biometrics in the span of a week, with China-based Telpo having recently ordered sensors for use in biometric POS terminals destined for India’s Aadhaar market. NEXT Biometrics has not revealed the value or sensor volumes associated with either order, but indicated that its first shipments to Tysso are expected to begin in Q1 of 2019.
