Biometric fingerprint manufacturer NEXT Biometrics AS has recently announced a newly signed agreement that will see its technology built into upcoming devices from a multinational tier one company.
Though the announcement is unspecified at this time, as is standard for design wins in this highly competitive space, NEXT has confirmed that its sensors will be applied to devices that fall within the smartphone/tablet/notebook market segments. Additionally, NEXT has stated that the customer’s projected unit volume is seven digits long, meaning whatever the number is, it’s at least a million strong.
Tore Etholm-Idsøe, CEO of NEXT, describes the design wins as “major league.” He illustrates this by describing how it has affected his company’s position in the world wide sensor market: “NEXT is now one of only three world market sensor suppliers to secure such a status from a multinational tier-1.”
NEXT was in the news previously at FindBiometrics in November when it announced a large area sensor order for the Chinese market. The company also recently gave the thumbs up to a new sensor coating machine that will enable NEXT to greatly improve its rate of output.
