NEXT Biometrics Starts Sampling Biometric Cards

NEXT Biometrics has begun sampling of its contact-based biometric smart card modules, the company has announced.

In a statement, the company indicated that the modules have now been sent to seven customers across North America, Europe, and Asia, and asserted that it is currently “engaged with another 20 customers for the smart card module worldwide.” The modules are compliant with the ISO/IEC 17839 standard, and NEXT Biometrics says they are “ideally suited for government identification cards, financial inclusion programs and access control devices.”

Commenting on the initialization of sampling, NEXT Biometrics CEO Ritu Favre said the company is seeing “strong interest” in its smart card solutions, and praised the speedy work of NEXT Biometrics’ engineering team. “These two things combined are the foundation for NEXT’s long-term success,” she said.

The development comes just a couple of weeks after NEXT Biometrics’ announcement that its modules for contactless biometric smart cards had been successfully tested against the ISO/IEC 14443 standard, marking an important milestone in their development. NEXT Biometrics is aiming to start sampling its contactless biometric modules next year.
