“The Oyster II also features NEXT Biometrics’ Active Thermal technology, designed to help the fingerprint scanner overcome obscuration from grease or dirt…”
NEXT Biometrics has announced a new version of its “Oyster” fingerprint reader launched back in 2015.
The new Oyster II retains the same ergonomic form factor of its predecessor, and like that device it’s also designed for Windows compatibility, this time supporting Windows 7, 8.1, and 10. The Oyster II’s USB connectivity allows the fingerprint reader to be plugged into virtually any computer device. It also features mobile connectivity.
The Windows 10 compatibility is important, too, as the device’s SDK is designed to support Windows Hello, the operating system’s embedded biometric authentication system. The Oyster II also features NEXT Biometrics’ Active Thermal technology, designed to help the fingerprint scanner overcome obscuration from grease or dirt; and it features the NB-3020-U2 sensor module, which NEXT Biometrics says has proven itself with notebook computer deployments.
With vastly more consumers now familiar with fingerprint scanner technology thanks to its proliferation across smartphones and other devices, the Oyster II could find a more ready market than the original Oyster fingerprint reader found just a couple of years ago.
