NEXT Biometrics has announced a major new order valued at 820,000 NOK. While the company has not yet released details about its client’s name and the technology in which it will be used, it has indicated that the order will be delivered over the course of the third and fourth quarters of the year, and is headed for the US market.
It’s an encouraging sign as NEXT Biometrics aims to market an expanded lineup of fingerprint sensors. The company has previously enjoyed success riding what CEO Tore Etholm-Idsøe called ‘the Apple effect‘ – that is, the growing use of fingerprint sensors in smartphones – so it may be reasonable to expect that the latest order will see its sensors implemented in new mobile devices. Still, given that the destination for the delivery is the US, and that there are so few US-based smartphone makers, it’s also worth wondering whether the company’s sensors will see some other integration, such as in one or more of the plethora of coming devices that will help to constitute the growing Internet of Things.
Time will tell, of course, but for now it’s clear enough that the company is benefiting from its new product offerings, and some credit may also go to its recent investments in its talent pool.
