NEXT Biometrics, a leading provider of advanced fingerprint sensor technology, has secured a NOK 15 million order for its FAP 20 sensors in India. The company announced a multi-year commercial agreement with a new Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) customer in India, marking a significant milestone in its expansion in the world’s largest biometric market.
The order is expected to begin deliveries by the end of Q1 2024. The new customer plans to launch its biometric product featuring NEXT’s FAP 20 sensor during the second quarter of 2024.
The announcement comes as the Indian government is upgrading its biometric and digital ID services program, Aadhaar, to meet new, stricter security requirements. All devices used within the Aadhaar program must now be certified according to Aadhaar’s L1 certification level. NEXT’s FAP 20 sensor has already been certified by the FBI and was recently approved within India’s Aadhaar L1 program. Ulf Ritsvall, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing at NEXT, stated that the new order would start generating recurring revenues for the company as soon as the new customer’s product is certified.
This development follows NEXT Biometrics’ previously announced partnership with Access Computech Pvt. Ltd. (ACPL), a firm that placed an initial $2.2 million order of NEXT’s FAP 20 fingerprint sensor in February of 2022. ACPL recently received L1 certification from the Indian government’s Ministry of Home Affairs, authorizing it to provide security services in the country. NEXT expects more recurring orders with shipments starting from Q4 2023 and into 2024.
NEXT Biometrics is not new to the Indian market; it has been adding local partners to increase its market share. The company believes it is well-positioned to capitalize on the growing demand for biometric solutions in various sectors, including government ID, access control, and smart cards.
“We continue adding local partners to increase our market share in India, the world’s largest biometric market,” said Ritsvall. “NEXT is now even better positioned in reaching its goals and todays NOK 15 million order will strengthen NEXT on its growth trajectory.”
