NEXT Biometrics has announced that it has received an initial purchase order as part of a multi-year contract. The Norway-based fingerprint biometrics specialist says the order is valued at NOK 5.5 million.
The order is in reference to an agreement first announced in March of this year, when NEXT Biometrics said that it had established a five-year contract to provide FAP 20 fingerprint sensors to a European tech company. NEXT has not revealed the name of the client, but said at the time that it is active globally, and has brought in billions of dollars in sales. NEXT CEO Peter Heuman described the client as “a dominant biometric player”.
The unnamed client is aiming to integrate NEXT’s sensors into standalone fingerprint readers and other biometrics-enabled devices, with work evidently getting underway if this initial order offers any indication.
“We are pleased that our collaboration with this industry leader in biometrics is starting to gain traction,” Heuman said in the company latest announcement. “We look forward to a long-term partnership that will continue creating value for both our customers and NEXT shareholders.”
The order speaks to NEXT Biometrics’ global reach. Earlier this year, the company announced a $100,000 order from an Identity and Access Management solutions vendor based in the United States, and it followed that up with news of another order from a client in India, where biometric technologies have seen considerable interest thanks to applications pertaining to the country’s world-leading Aadhaar biometric national ID program.
With respect to this new order from NEXT’s Europe-based client, the company says that deliveries of the FAP 20 sensors will begin in the fourth quarter of this year and will continue into the first quarter of 2022.
