NEXT Biometrics Extends IAM Partnership With Oyster III Sensor Integration

NEXT Biometrics has announced an expanded partnership with a U.S.-based Identity and Access Management (IAM) provider to integrate its Oyster III fingerprint sensor into new authentication offerings. The agreement, described as a multi-year deal, includes an initial order valued at NOK 2.5 million, with deliveries scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2025.

Expanding Adoption of Active Thermal Technology

The partnership builds on an existing relationship between the two companies, extending the use of NEXT’s biometric technology in a range of high-security IAM solutions. The unnamed partner serves both government and enterprise clients, offering passwordless, phishing-resistant authentication systems.

At the core of the deployment is NEXT’s Oyster III sensor, which features proprietary Active Thermal technology. This approach combines body-heat detection with three-dimensional fingerprint imaging to strengthen security and prevent spoofing. The sensor also supports liveness detection and is fully compatible with the Windows Biometric Framework (WBF), allowing for seamless integration into enterprise IT environments.

“While IAM has been around for some time, we’ve reached a tipping point and momentum is growing,” said Ulf Ritsvall, CEO of NEXT Biometrics. He noted that rising cybersecurity threats and digital transformation are pushing more organizations to seek out secure, scalable biometric solutions.

IAM Market Growth and Industry Context

The expansion comes amid significant growth projections for the IAM sector. Analysts forecast the global IAM market will grow from USD 22.9 billion in 2025 to USD 65.5 billion by 2034, driven by increased remote work, more frequent cyberattacks, and tightening regulatory requirements. In this context, biometric authentication is gaining ground as a key pillar of modern identity systems.

NEXT Biometrics has deployed more than 10 million fingerprint sensors worldwide over the past two decades, and its solutions have been certified by key regulatory bodies, including the FBI’s Personal Identity Verification (PIV) program, India’s Aadhaar program, and Nigeria’s NIBSS. These certifications reflect compliance with international biometric standards and support the company’s expansion into new global markets.

This partnership also reflects a broader industry shift toward stronger digital identity protections. Technology leaders like Google have recently introduced biometric enhancements to consumer products, while governments and enterprises continue to phase out password-based access in favor of biometric-first approaches. The agreement allows NEXT Biometrics to play a key role in helping organizations meet these new authentication demands.
