NEXT Biometrics has completed testing of its A2 ASIC chip, which its CEO calls a “cornerstone” of the company’s strategy.
NEXT says the ASIC chip has applications in smart cards, access control, and notebooks, and that the first order for the chip has already been placed. The company also says the chip could reduce costs by over $2.50 per module, a prospect that could offer serious appeal to client OEMs.
In a statement, Ritu Favre, the company’s new CEO, said that with its “enhanced performance, reduced size and cost reductions, this new ASIC represents a major milestone for NEXT Biometrics.”
The next-generation ASIC technology was cited as a key pillar of NEXT’s 2017 strategy in the company’s 2016 year-end update. The project’s progress suggests the company is on a steady course for the year ahead.
