NEXT Biometrics Gains Momentum in Aadhaar Market With Latest Pagaria Order

NEXT Biometrics has received a follow-up fingerprint sensor order from India’s Pagaria Group.

The companies first announced a Letter of Intent in January, when Pagaria formalized its intention to integrate NEXT Biometrics’ One Touch ID Finger Print Module into Point of Sale terminals and Bluetooth readers. The technology would be used to facilitate payments in the Indian market, where the Aadhaar biometric ID program has popularized the use of biometrics for identity verification across a number of application areas.

From there, Pagaria went on to order 25,000 fingerprint sensors (including 5,000 attached to the Letter of Intent) from NEXT, with the latter anticipating even more business to come from Pagaria over the course of 2021.

Now, some of that business has arrived, with Pagaria placing another order for NEXT Biometrics’ fingerprint sensors, this time in the amount of 9,000 units. In a statement announcing the deal, NEXT indicated that Pagaria has now ordered “almost 40,000 sensors,” and that NEXT is anticipating further purchase orders from the company this year.

“NEXT’s collaboration with Pagaria Group has intensified since the launch of their successful POS terminals,” explained NEXT Biometrics CEO Peter Heuman. “I believe this demonstrates the importance for NEXT to focus on design-wins with successful biometric product partners that are high in demand in local markets.”

On that note, India’s Aadhaar-fuelled market appears to be serving NEXT quite well. In addition to its business with Pagaria, NEXT also recently received an order from MobiOcean, another India-based firm that was looking to integrate NEXT sensors into biometric POS terminals. That order was announced in April and valued at NOK 1 million.

More recently, NEXT announced a $100,000 order from a repeat customer based in the United States just a couple of weeks ago, further attesting to the Norwegian biometrics specialist’s global reach.
