Nymi has announced version 3.0 of its flagship biometric wearable device, emphasizing its functionality in mitigating the spread of COVID-19.
The wristband device leverages both fingerprint-based authentication and heart rate biometrics to verify the identity of the wearer. Nymi has been pitching its eponymous wearable as a solution particularly well-suited for sensitive industrial applications that require workers to sign-off on various processes throughout the workday, and has seen some success in recent months in the pharmaceutical industry in particular.

But in announcing this latest version, Nymi also highlighted the wearable’s location sensing technology, which can be used to facilitate social distancing by tracking when a given device gets in close proximity to another Nymi Band, triggering an alert.
The device can also track contact logs for each user, which can be used for contact tracing purposes.
“The Nymi Band understands if employees have encountered a COVID-19 positive co-worker, the proximity between an employee and dangerous industrial equipment or the location of employees during a crisis,” explained Nymi COO David Rai. “Our technology is designed to add new uses cases as our customers continue their DX evolution.”
