New Xiaomi Laptops Feature Fingerprint Cards Biometrics

Fingerprint Cards‘ biometric technology is being used in more laptop devices from Xiaomi. In this case, the products in question are the Mi Notebook Pro 14 and the Mi Notebook Pro 15.

The fingerprint sensor integrations demonstrate FPC’s continuing business relationship with Xiaomi, with the latter having also used a Fingerprint Cards sensor in its recently launched RedmiBook Pro 15 laptop device. The recently launched Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra smartphone, on the other hand, has a fingerprint sensor provided by FPC rival Goodix.

In any case, the integrations validate Fingerprint Cards’ efforts to aggressively expand its business in the area of PC biometrics after having made a name for itself as a leading mobile biometrics specialist over the past several years. FPC announced new hardware and software solutions specifically aimed at the PC market last summer, with FPC Business Line Mobile SVP Ted Hansson having asserted at the time that “demand for biometrics within the PC market is growing, providing the perfect way to add convenient and secure authentication.”

The company’s CEO, Christian Fredrikson, also highlighted the opportunities presented in the PC market in FPC’s most recently quarterly report, issued in mid-February. Fredrikson said his firm could potentially “make serious inroads” in the market in 2021.

As for the new Mi Notebook integrations in particular, the company’s fingerprint sensors are built into each device’s power button. The biometric security feature adds to the premium specifications of Xiaomi’s new devices, both of which feature 11th generation Intel Core processors, 6-series aircraft grade aluminum chassis, and Wi-Fi 6 connectivity.
