In the wake of the mysterious tragedy of Malaysia flight 370, which saw the disappearance of a Boeing 777 aircraft carrying two passengers with forged biometric passports, the call for new and better border control solutions has been loud and clear. While those concerned in the US still await the long wanted biometric exit solutions that have been frustratingly absent from border crossings, Gemalto has launched it’s newest technology designed to make immigration control faster and more secure.
The Coesys Border and Visa Management solution, like all technology aimed at this vertical, was created to better secure national boundaries and make travel procedures less of a headache on the passenger side of the equation. Coesys is end-to-end, expediting wait times through automated document verification across all three access modes: land, sea and air.
“This new solution capitalizes on Gemalto’s security expertise and the hundreds of millions of electronic travel documents with the associated services that we have deployed so far,” says executive vice president, government programs at Gemalto Frédéric Trojani. “With air passengers traffic expected to double by 2030 and 53% of all passports issued forecast to embed the electronic feature in 2017, Coesys Border and Visa Management comes about just when governments need to fast track travelers through major international airports, with no compromise on security.”
Coesys Border and Visa Management is entirely computerized, integrating into biometric entry and exit infrastructure. Bolstering these deployments with official international databases, a traveler is treated to a two-step process. After her e-passport is presented and authenticated, a traveler submits a facial or fingerprint biometric that is compared to the templates contained on the verified secure document.
The automated border control eGates and kiosks associated with Gemalto’s newest offering are on the rise globally, particularly in European airports. To learn more about the biometric border control market, be sure to take a look at the most recent findBIOMETRICS webinar on the subject.
