New FAST Survey Will Measure Compensation of Security Industry Professionals

The Foundation for Advancing Security Talent (FAST) is kicking off a research study that is intended to improve hiring practices in the security industry. The study is being carried out in collaboration with the Electronic Security Association (ESA), the PSA Security Network (PSA), the Security Industry Association (SIA), and Security Sales & Integration (SSI), though FAST is the primary financial backer of the endeavor.

The participation of other top organizations will help ensure that the results properly reflect the full breadth of the security industry. The 2022 Security Industry Compensation Study will specifically look at payment and compensation data to figure out what works (and what doesn’t work) when it comes to recruiting high-level talent. The results will show the average salaries and benefits packages for people with different job titles, and provide participants with insights that they can use to put together more competitive offers for key positions.

“It’s easy to think we know what good, competitive compensation is in our industry,” said FAST Board Chair and Stanley Black & Decker Organizational Effectiveness VP Paul Hevesy. “The challenge is people’s needs and requirements change faster than any of us anticipate. We need to stay current in today’s competitive job market to recruit and retain top talent.”

FAST believes that its study will be particularly beneficial for security integrators, though it will ultimately be applicable to a wide range of dealers, developers, and product manufacturers. The findings will be published in late 2022, based on survey data collected over the course of the spring and summer.

To boost participation, FAST has stated that the full results will only be made available to companies that participate in the study. However, the top line results will be released to the general public once the study is complete. Companies that are interested can visit the FAST homepage to sign up for the study.

The SIA recently established a new Security Industry Cybersecurity Certification program to provide security professionals with a standardized industry credential. Jake Parker, the organization’s Director of Government Relations, will also be discussing the future of biometric security during a live webinar with FindBiometrics on June 1.
